Synopsis

In 1976, 75,000 inhabitants of the island of Guadeloupe were evacuated after international experts predicted a volcanic eruption with the force of 'five or six atomic bombs.' Despite warnings of certain death, one elderly peasant refused to leave; intrigued, Herzog and a crew of two cameramen decided to join him. The result is a haunting, visionary work.
