Program Note
A family of sideshow carnival acts travels with a troupe headed by Mr. Tibbs, a deranged leader whose deal with the devil has kept the bleak tour going. While passing through the towns by themselves as they hone their acts to be the leading performers of their carnival, a series of gruesome murders of wealthy families are being reported.
Set in Depression-era America in the 1930s, Where the Devil Roams is a harrowing journey into the darkness of a tightly knit family, whose daughter’s angelic voices and the grotesque, in-your-face killings by the family gracefully overlap one another. A beautifully crafted gothic horror tale, this is undoubtedly the best film from the indie DIY horror creators The Adams family, whose previous Hellbender (2021) was shown at BIFAN in 2022 with great enthusiasm.
