Program Note
Does the equation “You can tell a person by their clothes” mean (clothes=people)? Or, like Magritte's drawing of a pipe with the inscription “Ceci n'est pas une pipe.”, does it show the inequality “Clothes are not people” (clothes≠people)? We'll try to fill in the face and body, but the clothes get pushed aside at the point where the body is revealed. Animating the ‘slippage between signifier and signified.’ (NAH Ho-won)
