Synopsis

Gu-nam is a cab driver who leads a pitiful life in Yanbian. His wife went to Korea to earn some money 6 months ago, but he hasn"t heard from her since. He plays mah-jong to make some cash, but his life only becomes more complicated and pathetic. Myun-ga, a hitman, pays him to go to Korea and kill someone. Gu-nam is heading to Korea over the Yellow Sea to pay his debt and to meet his wife. The second film of Na Hong Jin who established himself as one of the notable Korean filmmakers with his hardboiled thrillers. 140 min, the director"s cut version premiered at this year"s Cannes Film Festival, Un Certain Regard section.

In 2008, Na Hong-jin gained international recognition with his feature film debut The Chaser, screened numerous film festivals including Cannes and Sitges. His second feature The Yellow Sea (2010) also shocked the Korean film industry with its outstanding mis-en-scene. Na’s presents his unique and powerful style again with latest film The Wailing, showing off the well-crafted narratives and outstanding filmmaking skills. All of his three feature films were screened at Cannes Film Festival.
