Synopsis

Cruel yet comic cannibalism of Peter MEDAK who directed Romeo Is Bleeding and Species 2. If you are into conspiracy theory and all sorts of wild imagination, The Washingtonians may be the most interesting episode for you. Mike FRANK comes back home with his wife and daughter for the funeral of his grandmother who passed away alone. After the funeral, the Franks stay at the grandmother's house and happen to find a portrait of George WASHINGTON-the1st U.S. President, and a secret document behind the portrait as well. The document contained a shocking revelation that George WASHINGTON ate human flesh, which drags Mike's family into a trouble. It is an immensely interesting plot that the respectable Founding Father George WASHINGTON was a horrifying man-eater who enjoyed human flesh.  The beauty of horror film is the presence of a character who is both good and evil. Furthermore, it gives a sort of catharsis beyond simple surprise to see a historical figure who commanded respect from people all around feeding on a man's leg with blood all over his lips. The movie centers around a bloody battle over the secret document tainting the image of George WASHINGTON between the Franks and the villagers all out to keep the secret to themselves. Its first attraction is the mood. As the movie describes cannibalism without any inhibition, it is full of grotesque mood from the beginning to the end. What is funny is such that the movie is little uncomfortable even if heads are flying at the wielding of sword and people are eating bloody human flesh in group. Mixture of comic elements with the grotesque tone makes the movie exciting all the more. In addition, the Washingtonians riding horses and wielding swords in the Independence War costumes around the streets are charismatic even though they are cannibals. Their traditional costumes, unique make-up and, most of all, their extreme belief and determination to practice it fascinates viewers in a compelling manner. (KIM Jong Chul)
