Synopsis
Luci and Sorina, an engaged couple, got kicked out of their rented home. Now they must live on the streets. Sorina believes that her dead father will send then a message from heaven and she visits her father’s grave with Luci. However, there is no message, but an empty bottle which falls on Luci’s head from nowhere. A kind French guy, Jerome gives the couple a ride to the hospital. Although Luci isn’t hurt that much, to escape their miserable lives, Luci and sorina move into Jerome apartment. In the mean time, in order to make money, Luci works as a beerman; he wears a beer costume and hands out leaflets. While doing so, he meets a girl named Mihaela. Although Mihaela falls in love with Luci, Luci does not notice. And Mihaela meets, as planned by her parents, a foreign man to get married. For those who only know Rumania as the home of ?racula,?this youthful comedy will come as a surprise. In Rumania, every young person aspires to leave behind his/her homeland in search of the west dreams that is ?o close yet far away.? However, such phenomenon is not unusual in those countries with the past of ?nder-development.? The director has a keen talent of depicting the materialism and corruption of his homeland. Especially striking is the scene where fake grapes and a statute of Venus with a clock attached are shown. Although this film is a comedy, sharp criticism and ironies abound. And that is probably why, viewers will find themselves laughing and crying at the same time. (Ellen Kim)
