Synopsis

After "Kogyo yalgae" became a box-office hit, similar movies flooded the film market and this film is one of them. The naughty protagonist has changed from a boy to a girl, but the over-all structure and characters were almost the same. Actor Myong-jung Ha played the role of a newly-arrived homeroom teacher named Sang-do Paek. On the first day of Mr. Paek's transfer, the girls conduct a mischievous ritual of welcoming the teacher. Wrestler Me-sun Chu is a strong rival of the naughty protagonist but becomes a friend by joining the Yalgae club. Chu one-sidedly loves the teacher and the film runs in a comical mood all along. However, messages are heard, too. At one point, Chu says, "I think we should be liberated from the uniform." At other point, she asks,"Why do they look at us with suspicious eyes when we meet boys?" There are two dramatically contrasting scenes in the movie. In one scene the girls recite "Autumn," a poem by German poet Rainer Maria Rilke. In the other scene, the girls are taking military training. The former shows the sensitivity of the generation that adored Hye-ryon Chon, Herman Hesse and poems like "The Rocking Horse and the Lady." Through those materials, youths of that period fostered their sensitivity and accumulated aesthetic experiences. In contrast, the military training forcibly demanded a shipshape group life that allowed no misstep or deviation. High school students then had to live amid this extreme contrast and division. It is pleasurable to see actress Kum-bong To in her role as the grandmother of the protagonist. She does not show her former trade-mark glamor but successfully acts a good, warm grandmother.
