Synopsis
It looks like the earth but it is not. There is an empire by the name of Honneamise and a royal space army. Although it is called a space army, its members are not commandoes who fly on spaceships and fight against aliens. They haven't even flown a satellite. Clad in funny looking uniform, they are often treated as pierrots and as idly wasting the people's tax. They have a sense of mission that someday they will make a trip to the outer space but it doesn't help anyway. A member named Shirotsugu used to dream of becoming a top gun flying a jet fighter but as the dreams wore thinner, he joined the space army. One day, he runs into Rikunida, a girl who preaches about God, on the street and his life changes completely. All of a sudden, he volunteers to make a test flight and his colleagues become active about a project, too. However, the project is not aimed at realizing the human longing for the outer space but turns out to be a hot potato in the contest between the republic and the empire. The moment of the test launching approaches and the situation becomes more urgent... It is significant that PiFan chose "Wing of Honneamise" over the cinema-version of "Evangelion." This film, without even resorting to computer graphics, describes in every detail the rocket-shooting scene. The scenes have been made through thorough preparation, including consultation with NASA, and was very much appreciated particularly after "Apollo 13" was put on public showing later. The film doesn't stop at faithfully describing the real. All the objects placed about on the screen have been recreated, condensing the time and space.(Na Ho-Won)
