Synopsis

Claire turns 35 years old tomorrow. She is a successful career woman. She has a nice position at a publishing house specializing in detective stories. She lives comfortably in a gorgeous apartment in downtown Paris. She is very popular with men and now wants to start a family. Her problem is choosing one of the three men she is dating. Upon her sister's advice, she invites all the three men to a dinner. The dinner starts in a disorderly manner. Three lovers and a male friend create an awkward atmosphere. To make matters worse, detectives frequent the place in search for robbers who commited a robbery that happened nearby. Then suddenly the situation turns into a nightmare. Claire kills one of her lovers purely accidentally while preparing for the meal. She tries to conceal the accident, but other lovers find out, and she kills them one after another, all by mistake or accidentally. What's more, the male friend confesses his love for her and kills himself. Four dead bodies are scattered here and there and detectives still come and go. Her sister appears with scores of friends for a surprise birthday party. She explains what happed to her sister and the two drive out all the people to deal with the bodies. At that time, two robbers who have been hiding in the house emerge. The detectives come in...In the desperate situation, Claire negotiates with the robbers. A string of simple, witty humors, this brutal comedy is the first full-length work by French director James Huth. One of the most memorable scenes is the jukebox scene. Korean spectators are quite familiar with the mood of French comedy. They have enjoyed science fictions like "Beautiful Green" or "Visitor" and such dramas as "Three Men And A Cradle, Trois Hommes Et Un Couffin" and "Nine Months" "Serial Lover" is a comedic mixture of suspense and thrills. Usually, it's the "relatively healthy" humor that makes French comedy different from the Hollywood productions. Humane humor overrides anti-humane humor. However, "Serial Lover" doesn't seem like that, maybe because of my lack of understanding. Would it be going too far to smell Tarantino from the overflowing blood and the comically-rendered scenes of murder? Even if the scenes of brutality are put aside, the fall of the protagonist to a serial killer is clearly decadent. If she really wanted to get married and have a child, I'd like to talk about some of the "Asian values" to this ill-fated woman. (Sang-jun Park)
