Synopsis

On the opening day of PiFan '97 on August 29, Melies's LE VOYAGE DANS LALUNE was presented as the opening screening movie at the Puchon Citizen's Hall . The film is based on the short story by Jules Vernes with the same title and it is famous for its first set filming and hand made special effects. With his granddaughter, Marie-Helene Melies as the live narrator and his great grandson, Lawrence Lehe' rissey as the live pianist, LE VOYAGE DANS LA LUNE was invited to many film festivals around the world. It was the world premiere at PiFan'97 as the movie was accompanied by a live orchestra, not piano

After the birth of motion pictures in 1896, Georges Melies is the creator of spectacle movies. He is both an artist and a poet, as he said, “I am always bombarded by the desire for the creativity”. Within his 16 years of filmmaking, he created more than 500 films. He is also the creator of many filmmaking effects such as double exposure, and established the world’s first movie studio with filmmaking machines and technology.
