Program Note
Jack Delroy’s syndicated talk show ‘Night Owls’ has long been a trusted companion to insomniacs around the country, but a year on from the tragic death of Jack’s wife, ratings have plummeted. Desperate to turn his fortunes around, Jack plans a Halloween special like no other, unaware he is about to unleash evil into the living rooms of America. Late Night With The Devil is the recently rediscovered recording of what went to air that fateful night.
Program Note
When the lost footage of a 70s late-night show is found, we are introduced to a show struggling to get to the top of the ratings. The team hopes its Halloween special with occult guests will finally bring them a win, but it is then revealed that the mayhem during the episode may have harmed the show, and everyone involved.
The Cairnes Brothers from Australia present a knock-out punch with Late Night with the Devil, a single-location, found-footage mockumentary, paying homage to late-night TV, with satirical look at the “satanic panic” of 70s America.
Stock footage presents a legitimate America in crisis feel, while split screens and B&W transitions create authentic live and behind-the-scenes segments. The ensemble cast, led by David Dastmalchian as the ratings-crazed host, Jack, combined with a nostalgic set and music score, deliver a spooky package bound to be a holiday classic.
