Synopsis

When a satellite falls from orbit and crashes into the home of a dysfunctional family in suburban Ohio, Cameron, the father, seizes the opportunity to fulfill his childhood dream of becoming an astronaut by re-creating the machine as his own rocket ship. While his wife and daughter believe he is experiencing a midlife crisis, surreal events begin to unfold around him, forcing him to reconsider how interconnected their lives truly are.

Program Note

Cameron is a host of children’s science TV show with low ratings. His wife wants a divorce, and his father suffers from Alzheimer’s. One day, a sports car falls out of the sky with his doppelganger in it, an ex-astronaut who’s taking over his slot on the TV show. When a part of a rocket falls in his backyard, he takes it as a sign to pursue his dream of being an astronaut, a goal that makes his family think he is having a midlife crisis.
Linoleum is a sci-fi fantasy feature focusing on family values and chasing one’s dreams. Director Colin West has created a truly touching and imaginative film, in which failed dreams and dysfunctional families can still achieve something positive. Three separate timelines are neatly tied together in one setting within Cameron’s mind, with an ending bound to tear up audiences’ eyes. Highly recommended for family viewing. (Jongsuk Thomas NAM)
