Synopsis

In Lebanon on the verge of the abyss, Khattar and Anais, two laid-off chemists attempt a unique experiment: to survive by feeding on human flesh. One day, the woman disappears, and the man is pulled into a trafficking scheme which entails exporting human meat, and in return, importing high-tech digital sniper weapons.

Program Note

Lebanon, devastated by civil war, where dismissed chemist, Khattar, and Anaïs are conducting an experiment in which they live in isolation and survive by consuming human flesh. Anaïs, suffering from excessive stress, is taken on a trip to the outskirts of the city to alleviate her pain, but when they encounter a group of strangers and join to their seats, the conflicts start to escalate. Christophe Karabache’s world is created through the collision of fragmented and alienating images and sounds that transcend the boundaries of the screen, resulting in a stylish aesthetic that combines the forbidden nature of carnival with a political and social allegory metaphorizing the city of Lebanon. Through the protagonist, who lives a primitive life of hunting and gathering in the city, the film challenges the audience with a game of greed, obsession, taboos, and transgressions, creating a subversive and political experience.
