Synopsis

When Dr. Elizabeth Derby, a psychiatrist with a thriving practice and a successful marriage, is introduced to her latest patient, she assumes it"s a case of complete mental breakdown. Clearly terrified, the young man insists his life is in danger and that an outside force is hunting his mind and body. Something in the young man’s pleas awakens a fascination within Elizabeth, and the two fall into a dangerous and obsessive relationship. As violent desires strengthen and grow, they must stop the chain of possession by this immortal evil; they can never return to their bodies ever again.

Program Note

Elizabeth is a successful psychiatrist who becomes obsessed with a young patient with extreme multiple personality disorder. However, her desire to help him leads to inexplicable actions, and as she shares her bizarre tales with her doctor, life becomes even more unhinged, not only for her but anyone in her way.
Based on a short story by H.P. Lovecraft, Joe Lynch’s Suitable Flesh reunites many Lovecraft staples, including Dennis Paoli as a screenwriter, Brian Yuzna as executive producer, and Barbara Crampton as both producer and supporting actress.
This deliciously complex film, however, is all Mr. Lynch’s: his solid direction and unpredictable use of perverse tones are well-complimented by the strong cast, including Heather Graham as Elizabeth and Judah Lewis as her young patient, creating a psychotronic masterpiece that will satisfy fans of both erotic thrillers and body horrors.
