Synopsis

A disgraced journalist who tries to salvage her career by turning to investigative podcasting. Whilst trying to get to bottom of a strange artefact that may be linked to an alien conspiracy, she begins to uncover the lies at the heart of her own story.

Program Note

Matt Veseley’s first feature is an impressively directed low-key science fiction thriller that centers on a disgraced journalist (Lily Sullivan), who turns to investigative podcasting as she tries to find a story that can salvage her career. The podcaster digs into a mystery surrounding a strange artifact that could be connected to aliens, or is it something from closer to home? Most of the film is set in the journalist’s parents’ spacious and luxury home. Echoing some of the traits seen in Searching, she delves into the story and interviews sourced from her room thanks to technology.
Wisely, the script written by Lucy Campbell doesn’t veer off in different directions, as it remains focused with Sullivan giving a commanding presence in the sole leading role. The film is as much about her as it is about the strange object. (Jason BECHERVAISE)
