Synopsis

Mona and Robby are a young couple in love. Robby has just landed his dream job, and they’ve scored an amazing deal on a spacious flat. Never mind that it requires a bit of renovation, the neighbours’ constant fighting and screaming baby. Mona is suddenly plagued by night terrors which grow more intense every time she falls asleep. Robby is eager to start a family, despite Mona’s hesitation. Eventually, Mona’s issues get out of control as she becomes convinced that she is being attacked by a mythical demon. – the Mare – intent on possessing her unborn child.

Program Note

Lovers Mona and Robby move to an old house. While Robby is excited about setting up their home and is busy with work, Mona is confined to the house, suffering from nightmares every night. As the line between dreams and reality becomes increasingly blurred, Mona finds herself in a precarious state. Nightmare unravels the story of persistent demonic activities in her nightmares. Simultaneously, it clearly implies a connection between Mona’s dissatisfaction with Robby unilaterally deciding their future and demanding they have children, and the nightmares that engulf her. The juxtaposition of classic and supernatural elements like nightmares and demons, while connecting them with the isolation experienced by modern women trapped in gender roles. Will Mona continue to fight against the nightmares till the end? Will Robby trust and support Mona? Selected for 2018 BIFAN NAFF It Project. (Rhana JANG)
