James is a novelist trying to break his writer’s block with a holiday at a resort for the super-rich. He notices Gabby, who claims to be a fan, and they go with their spouses on a night out, when a car accident kills a local farmer. For a fee, James is given the chance to create his clone and have it murdered by the farmer’s son. What follows is a series of deceits, murders, and more clones. Infinity Pool is Brandon Cronenberg’s third feature, a subversive, sci-fi horror satire of social class, and he fully grabs the audience’s attention from the start. He questions the morality of mankind, while delving into the gore and violence we commit. The impressive ensemble cast is led by Alexander Skarsgard’s bold portrayal of James trying to survive, and Mia Goth as cunning Gabby, laughing off any guilt for being rich and for others’ misery.
