Synopsis

Ye-jin looks like she is in her 20s, but she is actually in her mid-70s. She is suffering from an “unaging disease” as an aftereffect of being born to his parents who were affected by the atomic bomb. Victims, including Yejin, are called “Immortal” and live through social discrimination. However, Ye-jin wants to confidently come out to society and live with people while working as a model. Meiji TV, a fictional Japanese broadcasting station, covers Yejin.

Program Note

Ye-jin works as a model. A documentary team from a Japanese TV station approaches her to document her daily life. Why would they choose Ye-jin, a top model who appears to be in her late 20s or early 30s? Well, despite her youthful appearance, Ye-jin was actually born in 1945 and is nearing 80 years of age. How is this possible? As a survivor of the Hiroshima atomic bombing, Ye-jin has a condition where she ages less than her actual age, a phenomenon known as “Immortal”. Taking on the genre of fake documentary, Immortal seems to expose the duality of Koreans who are sensitive to differences through Ye-jin, who, despite being a victim of the atomic bombing, returns to Korea only to be confined and discriminated against for not being normal. As a result, Ye-jin’s statements take on a game of Truth or Dare halfway through the film, but it does not aim to delve into the negative sides of Koreans’ dispositions. Instead, it maintains the identity of the genre and delves deeper into Ye-jin’s immortality, delivering a shocking and unexpected ending. (HUH Namwoong)
