Synopsis

Habib, a devout follower of Islam, finds himself in a difficult situation when he discovers that his mentally challenged child, has been involved in an illicit relationship with his beloved cow, which is the main source of income and livelihood for his family. In accordance with God's command in Islam, Habib is required to kill the cow and burn its meat as a form of repentance. However, Habib is determined to find a solution that will allow him to salvage the life of his cow and seek forgiveness from God.

Program Note

The devout Muslim protagonist learns that their cow has been defiled by his own son. In the dilemma between reality and religion, he must decide whether to prioritize their own interests or follow the word of God. Through the hardships faced by an ordinary family, the director subtly exposes the patriarchal attitudes and issues related to women’s rights in Islamic culture. (Kristin JI)

Diretor

Mahdi BARZOKI

Born in Qom, Iran in 1988, is a writer, director, and cinema teacher. He studied filmmaking at the Iranian Youth Cinema Association and graduated from the Iranian Youth Cinema Society. He has made significant contributions to the film industry, serving in prestigious organizations and participating as a jury member in various competitions. He has directed and produced over ten documentaries and fiction films, receiving critical acclaim and multiple awards, including directing and acting awards at the 36th Tehran International Short Film Festival for his film Life is maybe this.
