Program Note

Frank is a corporate insurance lawyer about to be promoted. He goes out on the town with his co-worker Jeff to celebrate. However, upon dosing with hallucinogen at the party, Frank loses the perception of reality and goes on a psychedelic journey through his board meetings, clubbing and more. Now he is on a mission to find a girl he met as well as reality, while being as high as a kite.

The Wave is a genuinely creative existential thriller with eye-popping visual effects, a trippy journey from the mind of Gille Klabin, known for his works with DJ Steve Aoki. The film starts out as a conventional buddy comedy then delves into the psyche of soulless Frank, whose post-psychogenic drug consumption leads to ever-changing mental state yet eventually to the discovery of his sense of humanity. Justin Long steals the show doing his best being an awkward yet likeable lead character Frank. (Jongsuk Thomas NAM)
