VFW

Joe BEGOS

USA2019 92min Korean Premiere

Program Note

It’s a typical night at VFW (Veterans of Foreign War) post with old veterans drinking and conversing, when a young girl suddenly crashes the place with stolen narcotics. Soon, a group of violent thugs come after her and the post is turned into a survival hut for both the girl and the veterans. An all-out battle ensues as they will use every weapon to go against drug-fueled thugs’ attacks.

Truly an ensemble cast fare, VFW is Joe Begos’ triumphant homage to 80s grindhouse action films (including John Carpenter’s Assault on Precinct 13), featuring the 80s staple Stephen Lang, William Sadler, Martin Cove and Fred Williamson among others. Mr. Begos flawlessly orchestrates these actors in action to the audiences’ maximum viewing pleasure. Sierra McCormack as a young Lizard and Travis Hammer as menacing Boz also star in this fast, violent and fun film; good vs. evil has never been this intense yet joyous. (Jongsuk Thomas NAM)
