Program Note
Cheng Delee's family moved into a luxurious apartment, a large mansion with no furniture. The couple and their young son live in poverty. They live in a tent and bathe in the apartment pool. They were dedicated to selling their apartments and making a profit. One day, the wealthy old man who lived upstairs falls onto their balcony. A slapstick comedy is created with a desperate family who wants to sell their house, overinvolved community members and an unidentified killer couple.
The original Chinese title means “Bring us big success.” The film satirizes the pursuit of pecuniary interests of the people. The women's association of the apartment community is no different from that of Taiwan or Korea. This is the second feature film of director Lee Chung's who debuted with The Laundryman (19th BIFAN screening), which won the Best New Director at Golden Horse Awards. (Ellen Y. D. KIM)
