Program Note

James is a socially inept scientific genius, who is obsessed with time travel in expense of his personal life. One day, he is visited by his old self from the future, who succeeded in making a time machine, but lost the love of his life in doing so.  Still bitter over his life choices, the scruffy scientist uses his own method to try to convince his younger self to concentrate on Courtney, the woman he loves, over time travel.  What follows is a series of misadventures with a surprising result. .

LaLonde and his co-screenwriter/star Jonas Chernick bring a new twist to ‘time travel’ genre in James VS His Future Self, with ‘science’ as a way to look at one’s identity and relationship, and ‘time-travel’ as a metaphor of regret and redemption. Daniel Stern is hilarious as future James ‘Jimmy,’ while Mr. Chernick plays a perfect ‘experiment’ as brilliant yet socially inept current James. This is a current James’ journey to discover everything else in his life, including romance with Courtney, played by Cleopatra Coleman destroying the stereotype of geeks’ social awkwardness. (Jongsuk Thomas NAM).
