Program Note

Panos, a young doctor who has just buried his father, leaves to be a medical volunteer in a mountain village called Parnonas in Peloponnese. Unable to adapt to the somewhat enigmatic atmosphere in the village, he meets a mysterious lady called Danae, who he saves from danger and cures her unknown skin disease. In the process, Panos gradually became attracted to her. Panos, who starts to live in with her in a cabin, has to pay an enormous price for this fairy-tale love.

Minos Nikolakakis’s debut film, Entwined, is a horror fantasy film that incorporates familiar fairytale elements found in Spirit of the Forest and Sleeping Beauty. As the uncomplicated plot unfolds, the tale’s dark atmosphere is created through images of nature invoking quiet fear. Even No-frills directing and the dramatic tension slowly built up by the two lead characters evokes vivid nuance. (Jin PARK)
