Program Note
In the near future, 2220, the Seoul landscape of appears no different from how it is now, but in 200 years’ time, the government will be creating synthetic humans, or clones, to maintain a healthy life for its people. Artificial bodies are used in industry and for public work until they are required for their original purpose and humans must pay monthly health insurance premiums for the service.
The Interviewees questions the meaning of future life and human existence, which is no different from the present, through two people wandering around trying to get a job in a future Seoul, which has been restored back with the same landscape of Seoul 200 years earlier. The Interviewees follows a middle-aged man who stops paying for health insurance for his son's hospital expenses and a young man who wants to find his own meaning of existence. They don’t know each other, and they seem very dissimilar, but similarities start to appear as they wander around Seoul, which is familiar but strange to them. Without special effects or settings, and only with the dialogue and situations, the film explores the existence of a human being who has to live today, which is also someone’s future. (MO Eun-young)
