Steven SPIELBERG

USA2001 146min Color

Synopsis

David is a robotic boy programmed to show love and emotion and is adopted by a family whose real life son has been stricken by disease. As the human son unexpectedly recovers, David is soon abandoned and, with the help of some new found friends, begins a quest to become a real boy.

Program Note

In the future of depleted natural resources and many cities lost underwater, people continue their lives with the assistance of robots. If articial intelligence enables machines devoid of emotions to love, could they actually become members of the human race? In this futuristic version of the Pinocchio story, through a robot’s escapades, A.I. questions what it means to be human. (KIM Bong-seok)
