Synopsis

In this twisted horror anthology, five strangers are drawn to an abandoned theater and forced to watch their darkest fears play out before them. Lurking in the shadows is the Projectionist, who preys upon their souls with his collection of disturbing films.

Program Note

‘Masters of Horror’ creator Mick Garris brings his army of genre filmmaker friends to create a horror anthology hosted by devilish Mickey Rourke at his haunted theater. Whether it’s Friday the 13th (1980) homage, a body horror about high society, The Omen (1976) inuenced hell raiser or a slow-burn psychotic ghost tale and more, this film truly delivers chills and thrills. Joe DANTE

In 1978, he directed his first feature, Piranha, followed by The Howling (1981). Spielberg hired him to direct his big budget scary movie Gremlines (1984). At his best, Dante manages to capture in his work the wonder-and humor-of 1950s and 1960s movies that first turned him on.

KITAMURA Ryuhei

Kitamura was born in Osaka, Japan. He dropped out of high school at age 17 and relocated to Sydney, Australia. His first feature-length films Heat After Dark and Down to Hell were successful in film festivals, and he soon found his first mainstream success with the cult film Versus In 2003, he directed a feature film adaptation of the manga Azumi, and directed 2004's Godzilla: Final Wars, the 28th installment in the renowned kaiju franchise. In 2008, Kitamura made his American filmmaking debut with Midnight Meat Train based on Clive Barker's short horror story of the same name. He is currently working with Lupin III, a modern adaptation of the iconic manga by Monkey Punch.

Alejandro BRUGUES

Alejandro Brugues burst onto the scene after he wrote and directed Juan of the Dead (2011), which won the Goya Award for Best Spanish Language Foreign Film, and has since been an up-and-coming name in the horror space. Following that film, he directed standout pieces in the ABC’s of Death 2 (2014) and Nightmare Cinema (2018).
