Synopsis
A girl tells her boyfriend a story about a deserted strip mall, a real story from her high school years. She finds a mysterious black line in the mall notorious for its alleged involvement with ghost stories and dismembered bodies. Her curiosity drives her to follow the line, and as she does, secrets hidden behind the scribbled names unfold. The terror and reversal generated from subtle mood-building sets A Black Line apart from horror mediocrity. The calm story-telling escalates into sobs, anger, crazy words, and secret reversal. Another unique aspect of this film is the absolute dependence on only one actor, who singlehandedly maneuvers around the persistent long takes, and the slowly-building and expanding tension. Despite the minimalist plot with zero incident, the slow escalation of pressure hits your nerves like nothing you"ve ever experienced. (JANG Byung Won)
