Synopsis
In 1920s Japan, Okiku, who has no relatives, works as a maid at a remote mansion. The master, Kikuo, a Bunraku playwright, lives in seclusion with his sickly wife. Okiku is forbidden from entering their room and has never seen Kikuo's wife. Feeling uneasy, she secretly sneaks into the forbidden room to find out the truth.
