Program Note
Mimi (Louiza Aura) and Billie (Gio Ventura) meet on a music audition show and fall for each other at first sight, quickly becoming infatuated. However, cracks begin to form between them as Mimi rises to global stardom after winning a pop music competition, while Billie, a queer musician, dives deep into anti-establishment punk rock. Wounded and betrayed, Billie eventually exposes Mimi’s hidden secret to the public… Queens of Drama explores love, revenge, and reunion through its two protagonists while offering a sharp critique of society. It takes aim at the modern idol industry that forces individuals to erase their identity, Media that commodifies and overexposes the personal lives of public figures and the obsessive fan culture these systems feed. With bold primary colors, flamboyant visuals, and performances staged like dazzling music videos, the film cleverly blends style and substance to captivating effect. Queens of Drama had its world premiere at the Critics’ Week section of the Cannes Film Festival last year. (Flora Got PARK)
