Program Note

An intense crime thriller that explores humanity, morality, and redemption through the lens of organ trafficking and a father's quest for revenge. After his baby goes missing and his wife dies by suicide, Zhang Qi-mao is falsely imprisoned for murder. Years later, he learns that his baby's heart was taken by an organ trafficking ring. As he tracks them down, he nears the truth behind the organization and is torn between revenge and hope. Blending action, crime, and mystery in a neo-noir style, the film critiques social inequality and power abuse, while delving into themes of sin and atonement beyond simple revenge. The dark-toned visuals and stark contrasts heighten the tension, and an intense drama in which actor Chang Hsiao-chuan, who is well known to domestic audiences through various Taiwanese films, delicately expresses complex emotions and anger, adding to the audience's immersion.
