Program Note
A love-sick, foul-odored outcast gravedigger laments being shunned by her community when she meets a man of her dreams who isn't afraid of her filth and oddities. Amid their over-the-top affair, the man unfortunately dies at sea while travelling for fertility treatment, and the heartbroken gravedigger goes on a mission to revive her lover any which way she can, no matter how absurd the circumstances are.
Made on a micro-budget, Dead Lover is an offbeat romantic horror-comedy that combines Frankenstein with the trash cinema of John Waters and is not for the faint of heart. Written and directed by Grace Glowicki, who also stars as the gravedigger, the film's cartoonish, gross-out tale is an over-the-top, eighties retro surreal trip. If you're looking for something outlandish to indulge in, this film is it; you won't be disappointed. (Jongsuk Thomas NAM)
