Diego and Sage are a stressed-out couple seeking a remote luxury Airbnb experience when they discover the place is double-booked with another couple. Rather than fight out the double-booking, they decide to share a rather spacious place. Matt and Cin, the younger couple, are playful, and their initial encounters with them are friendly and fun. However, their promiscuity, manipulation, and lies lead Diego and Sage to second-guess the dynamics, ultimately culminating in a showdown.
A throwback to 80s suspense thrillers, Bone Lake is a smartly written, believable erotic thriller. The contrast between the playful Matt and Cin, and the has-been Diego and Sage, gradually builds up the tension, both in psychological and physical ways, with sex and violence. It's better not to know too much before screening the film, but one thing is sure: this is a stylish thriller that shifts into full horror mode by the end, a pure delight for all genre fans.
