Program Note

The estranged older sister has died. Makio, a 35-year-old best-selling author, impulsively takes her 15-year-old nephew Asa, who has nowhere to go, to her home. Asa's presence causes Makio to question everything, as she has never planned for marriage, pregnancy, childbirth, or even living in the same house with others. Meanwhile, Asa, an adolescent who lost his parents overnight, seems to be adapting well to his new environment but suddenly finds himself at a loss, unsure of how to process what has happened to him. Instead of portraying misfortune rapidly, the movie slowly and simply follows the hearts of two people. As they uncover secrets and truths hidden within the strong bonds of family, they embark on a journey to learn the values of love, friendship, and self-respect. Based on the manga of the same name by Yamashita Tomoko, the movie focuses on the changes in the relationship between Makio and Asa, who face their conflicts and gradually become closer. (CHA Hanbi)
