Program Note

Xu Jun, a former narcotics officer, lives in seclusion surrounded by nature after retirement. He eagerly awaits his only family, his hearing-impaired daughter, to graduate from college. However, he receives the devastating news of her death, murdered by a classmate. Xu Jun travels to the U.S. to recover her body and, with the help of Lucy, a college student who assists with translation, he uncovers the hidden truths behind her death.
The cold, snow-covered small town mirrors the desolate heart of a father who has lost everything. As he delves into the mystery of his daughter's tragic death, he reminisces about her and finds new hope. The film combines the chilling tension of a crime thriller with the poignant social issues faced by outsiders. The superb performances by renowned actors from both East and West add to the film's overall quality. (Martin LEE)
