Program Note

After apocalyptic struggles have destroyed most of Earth’s civilization for over a decade, we see Paul as a father of twin boys in a wasteland, fighting off the creatures roaming at night. When one of his sons gets into an accident, Paul has to look for and protect him, and while doing so, he is critically injured. It is now up to the twin brothers to defend their father, nearby farms, and their occupants against the creatures.
Arcadian is the latest work by Benjamin Brewer, whose previous visual effect works have garnered multiple accolades. This time, his direction work is on full display as he effectively combines his VFX artistry and action sequences, along with the timely placing of the soundtrack. Nicolas Cage as the father Paul is quite convincing, further enhancing this effective sci-fi horror-thriller, but working on family relationships and sacrifices that virtually play as the film’s key concept.
