Program Note

Judith is preparing at a hotel for an interview with the surrealist master Salvador Dalí. She meticulously prepares for the interview, but Dalí, who has already entered the hotel, shows no sign of coming in. After a flurry of preparations, the interview finally begins. However, during their conversation, Dalí realizes that the interview is intended for publication rather than filming and abruptly stops the interview. Will Judith be able to successfully complete her interview with Dalí? It might have only been a matter of time before Quentin Dupieux, one of the quirkiest directors in today's global cinema, took an interest in Dalí. True to expectations, Daaaaaali! is far from a traditional biographical film, instead reconstructing Dalí through Dupieux's unique perspective. The film features five different actors portraying Dalí at various points in his life through fragmented, non-linear episodes, where creating any sense of temporal or spatial continuity is meaningless. It is a film that acts as a prism, approaching the core elements that constitute the artist Dalí within the world of Dupieux. (Jin PARK)
