Program Note

In the winter of 1999, when the streets were filled with all kinds of rumors surrounding the end of the century, from Nostradamus’ ominous prophecy to the danger of Y2K Bug, the nasty nickname given to Young-mi was, of course, ‘Ms. Apocalypse.’ But She doesn’t care. Whether others are collecting emergency food or laughing at her, Young-mi doesn’t care and sticks to her work day and night. This is because he is paying back the money he stole from the company on behalf of his crush, Do-young. It’s dizzying up to this point, but it gets even worse from now on. It turns out that Do-young is a married man, and soon after, he goes to prison for embezzlement of public funds. Even Young-mi cannot avoid judgment. A few months later, release from prison, Do-young’s wife, Yu-jin, visits Young-mi and offers to repay her husband’s debt. Young-mi, who has nowhere to turn, and Yu-jin, who cannot move due to a disability, begin an uncomfortable cohabitation. Ms. Apocalypse depicts the relationships between the weak, each with their own vulnerabilities, and at odds with the world. While the end of the world is only a rumor, the two women rush into the world with great momentum and complete their own narrative of salvation. (CHA Hanbi)
