Synopsis
With the same tone of beginning and ending scene, the Best Stalker is a delicate film that makes it impossible for the audience to draw a whole picture until the end. Sergeant TONG accidently shoots the daughter of barrister Ann GAO, while he chased a criminal named CHEUNG Yat-Tung. Ann manages to bring CHEUNG before the court but this time her younger daughter Ling is kidnapped, which is witnessed by TONG. Feeling guilty for the death of Ann’s daughter, TONG is on the chase, but only to fail. TONG and Ann try to save Ling but this unknown kidnapper is more experienced and persistence than expected. The Beast Stalker provides cinematic pleasure which can be hardly provided unless well-organized scenario meets excellent acting and outstanding directing. Most of the story is revealed in the middle part of the film, but it maintains the level of tension thanks to its well-organized structure. The unexpected outcome at the end makes the audience ruminate about how everyone is connected. The film starts so much like an ordinary Hong Kong action film but strong characters, impressive chase scenes and inevitable showdown at the end shows the power of this film, which befits the movie’s title of the Beast Stalker. Having directed films over the decade, Dante LAM shows his evolved directing skills in this film. Nicholas TSE and Nick CHEUNG who play sergeant and kidnapper in the film won a number of prizes in the best actor category in various film festivals. (KWON Yong Min)
