Synopsis

Oasis is a romance film in which director Lee Chang-dong and actors Seol Kyung Gu and Moon Sori reunite. Hong Jong-du (Seol Kyung Gu), an ex-convict for a hit-and-run, and Han Gong-ju (Moon Sori) who has severe cerebral palsy and is a family member of the victim, are in love. Everyone is uncomfortable about Jong-du’s visit to the victim’s family, and him seeing Gongju and their existence. Social outcast Jong-du takes the blame for his brother’s crime because he had been in and out of jail previously, and disabled Gong-ju was neglected in a shabby apartment by her family. They miss each other when they are apart. When they hug each other, their own oasis overflows with love. Their love is regarded as a mirage in a desert-like world. Lee Chang-dong’s directing that sensitively explores the hypocrisy, Seol Kyung Gu’s simple but unpredictable acting, and Moon Sori’s performance that expresses Gongju’s wrenching body and sound mind, is an unparalleled combination.
