Synopsis
In the middle of night with a curfew in place, a dead body is found. A man is accused of the murder and put behind bars, but breaks out of to find the real culprit. It sounds like a typical crime film, but we don’t know the true nature of it, because the film has disappeared. Though the Rose has withered follows the actors’ rehearsals for a recital of the original script of a film made in 1962 by No Pil, who passed away at the age of 38, leaving only the script. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, the events that happened after the rehearsal had to be replaced by film footage. Disappointed by the unexpected cancellation of the recital, the director leaves and an unidentified replacement takes over. Can the man, who is hesitant at first but soon becomes passionate about directing, and the actors bring the film that disappeared 50 years ago to life? It is a story about actors who want to revive a disappeared film in the present time, an interesting and touching attempt of filmmaking. (MO Eun-young)
