Synopsis
Ricardo sells the house where he spent time with his daughters when they were young, and they go on holiday to his hometown near a lake in southern Chile. As they are enjoying a quiet time on a boat, they come across some young men crying for help. Ricardo is suspicious of them and initially refuses to help, but on his older daughter’s request, changes his mind. He remains suspicious even after rescuing them, and the tension grows. Immersion is Nicolás Postiglione’s debut feature film, in which the dramatic flow is heightened by the gradually building tension between the urban middle class family and the young backwoods fishermen. The plot of this psychological thriller is reminiscent of Funny Games (1997) by Michael Haneke, adding horror and suspense as darkness falls on the lake. Alfredo Castro, the leading actor of the Chilean cinema, plays the role of Ricardo. (Jin PARK)
