Synopsis
Masked armed terrorists storm a remote school in Karatas. With no clear demands, the men hold the students hostage. Due to bad weather and communication problems, the police don’t know when the backup team will arrive. Math teacher Tazshi, his ex-wife, the principal, a janitor and a colleague form a rescue party with the local police. Assault follows this citizen militia as they take on the terrorists. Sound like a typical action B-movie? Well, the structure is not that important, Yerzhanov focuses on the human responses to unexpected situations rather than the thrill of the genre. The process leading up to the rescue is far from heroic, but more about the portraits of ordinary people who are weak and insecure but resolutely stand against violence by mustering all their courage.
