Synopsis
Overweight Simi visits her aunt Claudia to spend Easter together. She starts a weight-loss project with the help of Claudia, who is a renowned dietician and bestselling writer on dieting, but the extreme diet brings Simi almost to starvation, making her unbearably stressed. In addition, the strange air between Claudia’s husband, Stefan, and cousin Filipp provides tension. Family Dinner is the debut feature film by Peter Hengl, who has been active as a scriptwriter. It is set in an isolated farmhouse in the countryside with a minimal cast of characters. The essential conditions for life, which are the body and family, are the source of horror, creating mystery throughout the film. Psychological tension between the four characters rises as Easter draws closer, and the hidden truth of Simi’s anxiety is revealed at the end in one last shocking twist. (Jin PARK)
