Synopsis
The title suggests the film is related to climbing, which is partly true in that mountain bikers do appear. But it’s far from an action film. One of the bikers, Yeonji (Kim Ye Won), loses her dad at Chiaksan Mountain when little. The missing story is a bit ominous as it is related to a dismembered body, so horror controls the mood of the film. As an adult, Yeonji visits Chiaksan Mountain again to overcome the fear of her dad’s absence. From the time she visits the mountain, supernatural phenomena arise around Yeonji, her cousin Minjoon (Yun Kyun Sang), and their friends. The red light creates ominous energy around the villa where they are staying, and some friends lose the plot. In the meantime, a hidden laboratory that appears to have tested a mysterious existence in the basement is found. The last section connects the present, when the main characters are suffering, with the past when Yeonji’s dad first disappeared. Reminiscent of Sci-fi film and unlike the folksy title, Chiaksan Mountain is a true mixed genre film. (HUH Namwoong)
