Synopsis

It would be quite difficult for a young film buff to recognize this film as one of the 60s. In other works this film is well ahead of its time. Director Kim Ki-Yong proves his ability as a filmmaker whose strength lies in situation and detail rather than the story. The framelike structure, a sense of horror created through lighting, camera angel instead of shock effects all prove director Kim’s degree of imagination and originality. The maid represents a typical femme fatal.

Diretor

KIM Ki-young

After graduating from Seoul National University, he became a refugee in Busan in the Korean War. There, he worked as head scenario writer and producer at the film production company of the United States Information Service. This allowed him to become a director in 1955 with The Box of Death, the first synchronous recording film in Korea. He was a rare stylist who showed strong characteristics as a writer from the beginning.
