Synopsis
Based in a novel written by Yoshikazu Takeuchi, PERFECT BLUE is an animated psycho-thriller surrounding the events of a woman named Mima Kirigoe.
Mima is the lead vocalist for ‘Cham’ a pop-vocal group, but she feels depressed because none of her songs have becomes a hit. She decides to leves the music scene and develop her talents as an actress. Her agent Tadokoro finds her a role in a TV drama in which she plays an anti-heroine, but Mima is still dissatisfied and loses sight on what exactly she wants to do. Despite feeling depressed and anxious, Mima continues to play her role. However, a strange occurrence evolves. Mimi discovers that a virtual Mimi, who is an exact simulation of her, exists on the Internet. She vecomes frightened by the idea that someone is watching her and studying her every move. To make circumstances worse, once the TV drama airs, the plot in the movie turns to real life. Mimi becomes trapped in a world between dreams and reality, putting her in a weak psychological state and feeling confused about strange events unfolding around her.
Despite the common sci-fi animations of japan, PERFECT BLUE is bold gesture becomes it strays away from popular themes, such as robot wars and other-worldly adventures, and focuses more on the complexities of the human condition.
