Synopsis

Set on the transmedisan I-5 freeway, the film FREEWAY is a comedy-action-noir dealing with the well know fairytale, ‘Little Red Riding Hood.’ In a city where incest and prostitution, drugs and guns rule, the little red riding hood which represents virginity no longer exists.
The teenage Vanessa takes off to find her grandmother when her parents are arrested for drug abuse and prostitution. She meets the serial killer, Wolverton on the freeway and falls victim to his murderous pursuit. However in the end the red leather jacketed Vanessa takes revenge on the I-5 killer. Charged with the murder of Wolverton, Vanessa is imprisoned and hope is grim. But finally she escapes from prison and continues her journey …
Kiefer Sutherland as Wolverton gives a superb performance as the wolf who unrelentlessly harasses Vanessa. If Sutherland’s distorted face and hoarse voice in the film establishes both humour and horror in the film, this aspect is also balanced by the strength of Vanessa’s femininity which reads as social critique. Matthew Bright shamelessly shows off his talent as the narrative written by himself presents the paradox whereby things are not always they appear to be.
