Synopsis
Maxwell Scarry is missing. In Fiordland, New Zealand? most remote region of dense jungle bush and high mountains, he was searching for the remains of the mysterious Lost-Tribe - native outcasts now scarcely remembered. At first his wife Ruth and brother Edward aren? particularly worried; they know Max has always been something of a law unto himself. But there? one thing very wrong: local police sergeant Swain doesn? want to find him. Back in the city Edward is interrogated on suspicion of murdering a prostitute - a crime he did not commit. Suddenly life is not so simple. Edward is in a corner, and the only way out is to fight back. Once forced to solve the puzzle he discovers that Maxwell? disappearance and his own plight are definitely linked. Obsessively Edward pursues the mystery, returning with Ruth to Fiordland in spite of warnings from Swain to leave it alone. On researching brother Maxwell? last-seen campsite, Edward and Ruth are drawn into a deadly train of events - one that seems almost pre-determined. There will be no going back - no escape. The two are left compelled to play out the nightmare to its eventual bizarre conclusion. (production notes)
