Synopsis
Lee Sang is remembered by the Korean people as a unique artist of the modern times. When the modernization of Korea began by the arrival of the western culture using Japan as a 'broker', Lee Sang expressed the intense desire to become thoroughly modernized, and at the same time, scoffed at the very aspects of the Western Civilization. His proses and poems are still used as the chief text for the research on Korean literature and his short life has been the inspiration to many artistic creations produced since his death. In particular, his poems, which refuse to conform to the common literary rules of composition, consist of symbols and puzzles that defy interpretation. Such uncertain elementsin his work served as the stimulating factor for the pursuit of the hidden meanings behind the puzzle. Based on the scenario which collected the first prize in the scenario competition organised by the Korean Film Commission, the film revolves around the conspiracy theory hidden in the poem called 'Mystery of a cube'. The exciting process of the puzzle-solving is combined with the imaginative screen technology. While it is intriguing to follow the path to unveil the cryptic message hidden in the poem, the quality of the special effects in the film clearly indicates the current standard of the technology utilized in the Korean films.
